Our staff here at Heritage Child Development Center are educated in Early Childhood Development and continue their professional development through daily practice and on-going educational opportunities. Our staff has a common goal to make sure that all children can experience what we have to offer them.

The teachers who you will get to know throughout your child’s preschool years are those who have been working in preschool settings for many years and some that are new to the field. We appreciate the opportunity to serve you and hope the passion is felt as we grow and learn together.

Our program has a curriculum influenced by the children’s interest, developmentally appropriate practice, anti-bias and creative curriculum. Our implementation will unfold in an emergent way. All activities are open-ended, and we are committed to staying focused on the children and development.

Holidays are celebrated in an anti-bias way, we do not do gift exchanges and birthdays are fine to talk about at school and parents are welcome to bring a healthy snack for children or a book to read, but we do not do parties here at the center for the children.

Our teachers and staff care about children and their families and appreciate the opportunity to become part of your child’s school experience. We value your involvement and encourage your participation and understand that you are your child’s primary teacher. We want your active involvement in your child’s program and welcome your visits and questions. We recognize that each of you will choose different types of involvement. At the beginning of each school year, we schedule individual parent/child orientation visits. During the year, any new families are also scheduled. You are welcome to visit or observe your child anytime during the day or to join in by reading a story to children or participating in activities, such as, cooking, sewing, music, field trips and so much more.

If you are unable to spend time at the center when your child is here, you may be able to contribute in other ways. There are often carpentry jobs, toy repairs, sewing projects, or other tasks that can be done at home as your schedule allows. You are welcome to bring your lunch and eat with your child or come for snack time. We look forward to your participation.

Ways to be involved:

• Let us know about special interests, skills, or cultural experiences you could share with children.

• Read our bulletin board in the lobby or outside your child’s classroom for any interest that may spontaneously pop up that you are interested in.

Children will be gaining many experiences playing with different materials and other natural things, so please be sure that your child always has an extra pair of clothes in their cubbies.

We have sheets, blankets, and pillows for the children during rest time and they are washed once a week. If your child would like to bring something of their own, that would be fine. We will keep it on their cot and once a week we will send it home to be cleaned. We don’t do show and tell, all toys must be kept at home, children have lots of activities and things to work on at the center.
